The mission of Jailhouse Yoga is to create greater awareness of the opportunity to teach yoga within our correctional/detention centers. That's it.

There are many organizations, people, and faces already out there producing results within correctional/detention centers. Jailhouse yoga is another face another expression in creating that awareness, opportunity, and involvement.  Jailhouse yoga was formed to answer a persisting question from inquiring teachers  "how can I get started teacher at my local youth detention center". Jailhouse Yoga is simply a face to help answer those inquiries.

Another Face

We get stories of people crying with joy and getting excited about the possibility of teaching and hearing the difference yoga is making with inmates when they get present to the impact of the flyer or website pictures. It is this impact, joy, and excitement (the Jailhouse Yoga face) that teachers connect with. It's fun, and Jailhouse Yoga is committed to creating that space for teachers to connect with and the possibility of those teachers getting involved.

An inmate once said “Yes I will take yoga classes outside of the jail, it is part of my life now.” Jailhouse Yoga is out to connect these human beings with those teachers that desire to teach. Inquires or to get involved please contact freedom@jailhouseyoga.com
